LATEST NEWS
Updated 06 February 2010.
On a very hot summer's evening last Thursday (04 Feb)
Barbara's first solo
exhibition in over 17 years, opened in the
Chartwell Room of the Artspost Galleries in Hamilton.
In excess of 100 people crowded the gallery to hear Tim MacIndoe (MP
for Hamilton West) open the combined exhibitions of Barbara, Joy
Yeates-Ross and Kamini Nair.
Many favourable comments were made about Barbara's paintings and she
was delighted to see among the guests Dr. Ed Hanfling of Auckland
(art critic and historian) at the opening to view more of her
work.
Entitled "ESSENTIAL LANDFORMS --
a painterly approach", this exhibit-
ion consists of a series of 31 expressionistic acrylic paintings
that Barbara has produced over the last 4 years, and features 11
paintings that have won recognition of one type or another at national
art competitions, including the PREMIER award winning painting from the
North Shore City Art Awards of Oct. 2008.
The
exhibition will be open to the public through to 01 March 2010.
On
January 29 the opening and awards ceremony at the
25th Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Awards took place in Whakatane. Barbara
was very
fortunate to have one painting chosen for hanging in the final 60 that
made up the exhibition. There were 270+ entries.
Earlier, on 21 January, Barbara was awarded 2nd place in the Supreme
Art Award
in the 39th Waihi Summer Festival. This annual event attracts entries
from all over NZ .
